Please note: The techy tea clubs are all currently closed owing to the Covid 19 lockdown. We plan to reopen again as soon as possible.
Techy tea clubs are social clubs, based in Lewisham, where people can come to learn internet skills. Students sit with volunteers called "buddies", who help them with whatever they would like to learn about or practice. Tea coffee and biscuits are provided.
Here are the clubs we are currently running
Techy Tea on Monday
Every Monday 1-3pm
St Mauritius House
65-67 Lewisham Park
The Monday Techy Tea Clubs are run with the support of the Lewisham Pensioners' Forum, who provide the venue as part of their Monday Wellbeing Project. They have been running since September 2014. During this time we have been based at The Point, The Saville Centre, The Owen Centre, and finally where we are now, St Mauritius House
Techy Tea on Tuesday
Every Tuesday, 1-3pm
Ewart Community Hall
44 Wastdale Road
Techy Teas on Tuesday have been running since December 2016. They started as a result of the Go-On Digital inclusion project, which CatBytes contributed to in Lewisham. Ewart Community Hall was one of the venues we ran a club at, and we liked it so much we decided to move in permanently. Following this move, we were able to launch a new techy tea club, which is the Tuesday Techy Tea club.
Techy Tea on Friday
Every Friday 1.30-3.30pm
Free of charge
Includes Maureen's film club
260 Stanstead Road
The Friday club has been running since the beginning of 2018. Stanstead Lodge (formally known as seniors), have been very supportive of our club. They have funded the creation of a digital hub in the room we use for the club. So there are now four computers with internet access available for use in the training room of the building.
The club also features Maureen Bishop's film club alongside the regular techy tea club. We have obtained a copy of Roxio's film editing software, and Maureen has made a number of films about Stanstead Lodge with club participants.
